Historic Center Route – Chinchiná

We offer a circuit (starting at 8:00 am and ending at 5:00 pm) that combines: urban biking, rural biking, a long and fun descent along an unpaved road, and traditional activities, such as visits to small coffee farms, trapiches (traditional sugarcane mills) and family-run factories. We guarantee lots of fun on our cycling tour.

The ride starts by bicycle from Golden Frog Hotel Experiencia Manizales. First, we ride past the city's main historic buildings (the Parque de Bolívar, the Catedral and the Parque Caldas) until we reach the cable car, which lets us see Manizales from above. We then head to the Parque Principal of Villamaría. There we ride through the streets to reach the unpaved road, and on the descent we go to the charming town of Llanitos, which seems to be always celebrating, with liquor stores and open businesses playing cheerful, popular music. After a short break to hydrate or watch the kids play soccer on the local field, we continue the descent to the bridge over the Río Claro. This river's basin begins with the meltwater from the Poleka Kasue glacier, better known as Santa Isabel, and flows through the valley of the same name until its crystalline waters empty into the Río Chinchiná. The views of the Río Claro valley are inspiring, and we can see small haciendas and typical, very colorful houses of the area. We will also come across abundant coffee, banana and sugarcane plantations. After a well-deserved lunch, we will visit organic coffee farms, trapiches and candy factories to learn about our traditions and meet the protagonists of our agricultural culture. We will continue riding until we reach the main road, where the vehicle awaits us to return to Manizales.

Recommendations:

This is an ideal route for enthusiastic cyclists who ride with some regularity. It does not require a high-performance level of fitness, since most of the route is downhill.

You will need: cycling clothing, sunscreen, and a personal water bottle to be filled from the main water jug. You may bring personal items such as cycling shoes with clips, gel seats, ride-tracking computers, etc.
