With an outstanding track record, the Congreso has become a national and international reference, and once again shows how “Caldas es Natural” is a world-class destination for birdwatching and conservation.
The congress brings together experts and birdwatching enthusiasts, offering a robust academic agenda with keynote lectures, workshops, forums and education symposiums that explore ornithology, nature tourism and the impact of citizen science. These spaces make it possible to learn about international success stories, scientific projects and the best practices for conserving and promoting birdwatching in Caldas. This congress strengthens the destination's sustainable tourism offering, promoting interaction with local communities and highlighting the region's unique biodiversity.

In addition, the experiential agenda invites participants to immerse themselves in the habitats of Caldas, from 850 to 4,100 meters above sea level. With 20 field trips in Manizales, Villamaría, Chinchiná, Neira, and other areas, attendees will be able to enjoy direct bird observation and the beauty of the diverse ecosystems. This experience makes it possible to discover birdwatching routes, eco-lodges and nature reserves that make Caldas a bird hotspot worldwide, where people are actively working for the sustainability and conservation of its habitats and culture.

In Caldas, the Congreso de Aviturismo highlights ideal places for birding, covering altitudes from 850 to 4,100 meters. Among the recommended sites are the Embalse y Bosque San Francisco, Finca Romelia, Tinamú Birding, Hacienda Venecia, and the Reserva Natural Licorera de Caldas. You can also explore biodiversity in areas such as Río Blanco, the Reserva Forestal Protectora Bosques Cedral, and the Laguna Negra in the Nevado del Ruiz, among others. Manakins Take Center Stage at the Congress
This year, the small but striking Saltarines or Manakins (Pipridae family) will be the stars. With their vibrant plumage and spectacular dances, these birds offer a unique visual show. In Caldas, these birds can be observed at several well-known sites, such as Tinamú Birding, Finca Romelia, and Refugio La Esmeralda, places where attendees will be able to admire their striking rituals.
