Nature and Páramo

Laguna del Otún, located at about 3950 msnm (meters above sea level), in the páramo ecosystem. Formed by volcanic and glacial action, it is fed mainly by meltwater from the Nevado de Santa Isabel. This lagoon is the most important reservoir in the region, with an approximate area of 1.5 km² and a depth of 70 meters. The tour starts from Manizales or Chinchiná, and the ascent is made in 4X4 pickup trucks on an unpaved road. Strategic acclimatization stops are made, and the ascent continues until reaching the Refugio Potosí, where you will spend an incredible night under the stars. From there, the hike begins on the trail that connects with the Laguna del Otún, a route lasting approximately 3 hours to the viewpoint named la asomadera; its difficulty level is medium-low. This route goes through unique mountain ecosystems, passing through páramo areas, and is characterized by the presence of Frailejones, Plantagos, grasses and medicinal plants.
