Aguadas

Aguadas, known as "the city of mists" (“la ciudad de las brumas”), the capital of the hat, the pionono and the pasillo, is a destination full of identity and charm in northern Caldas. Also called the "esquina de la estirpe," "ciudad castillo," "ciudad florón del departamento" and "villa de la Iraca," this municipality is part of the Coffee Cultural Landscape, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2011.

Recognized for its artistic, cultural, artisanal and architectural richness, Aguadas is the second municipality in Caldas named a Bien de Interés Cultural de la Nación (National Cultural Heritage Site), a title that highlights the value of its Historic Center. Walking along the Calle Real, the Cuchilla or the Los Chorros area, while taking in the shapes and colors of its colonial architecture, is an experience that transports and amazes.

Aguadas is also famous for the Festival Nacional del Pasillo, its iconic Sombrero Aguadeño and a cuisine that wins over those who visit. If you're looking for a weekend full of dancing, music, traditional dress and Colombian tradition, Aguadas is the place where you'll have fun, enjoy a cultural atmosphere and learn what the Festival Nacional del Pasillo Colombiano is all about. The festival pays tribute to the Hermanos Hernández, the trio from Aguadas made up of Pacho, Héctor and Gonzalo, and Ley 983 de 2005 declared it a Cultural Heritage of the Nation.

The Aguadeño hat, more than a tradition

Iraca is the star material used to make masterpieces such as the famous sombrero Aguadeño, designed in different styles, which is recognized around the world for its quality and elegance. A hat museum and a town within the town

At the Casa de la Cultura Francisco Giraldo is the Museo Nacional del Sombrero (National Hat Museum), the only one in the country, with more than 300 handmade hats from different regions of Colombia, and next to it the Museo de Tradiciones Aguadeñas. At the Alto de la Virgen is Pueblito Viejo, a replica of Aguadas at the time of its founding, with a chapel, town hall, school and Manuela's fonda. From there you can see the Cerro de Monserrate, the guardian hill, with the statue of the cacique Pipintá at its summit.

Two churches and a 1928 organ

In the Parque de Bolívar, next to the statue of the Liberator, the templo de la Inmaculada Concepción houses a pipe organ built in Spain in 1928 and inaugurated in 1933. The templo de Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá has contemporary architecture and features stained-glass windows with religious images and a facade with a ceramic mosaic of its patron saint.
